Peripheral Neuropathy describes damage to the peripheral nervous system that extends out from the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). It can be caused by problems like traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic problems, exposure to toxins and most frequently diabetes. Neuropathy Symptoms

Common symptoms include numbness, tingling, a sharp, jabbing, electric-like pricking sensation (paresthesia), edema (swelling), sensitivity to touch, painful cramps, fasciculations (uncontrolled muscle twitching visible under the skin), and muscle weakness. More extreme symptoms include bone degeneration, changes in the skin (dark purple or black) hair or nails, loss of balance, burning pain (especially at night), muscle wasting, paralysis and organ (i.e. bladder and bowel) or gland dysfunction that may lead to an inability to digest food easily, maintain safe levels of blood pressure, sweat normally or experience normal sexual function.
